The questions every small business owner should be asking
- Am I set up the right way? A sole proprietorship, LLC, partnership and S corporation are taxed very differently. The right answer changes as profits grow.
- Am I paying enough during the year? Owners generally pay tax through quarterly estimates (April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15) to avoid underpayment penalties.
- Am I taking the deductions I'm entitled to? Including the qualified business income deduction, which was made permanent in 2025, and current rules for equipment and vehicles.
- Are my state filings in order? Sales tax, payroll tax, annual reports and pass-through entity tax elections in New Jersey and New York all have their own deadlines.
Who we work with
Professional practices (including law firms), contractors and trades, consultants, e-commerce sellers and owner-operated businesses. If you're starting out, we can help you choose an entity and set up your books correctly from day one.
Frequently asked questions
Should my LLC be taxed as an S corporation?
Possibly, once profits are high enough that payroll tax savings outweigh the added costs of payroll and a separate return. It also affects your QBI deduction and state taxes. See our S corporation page, or book a consultation and we'll run the numbers.
Do you work with businesses that are just starting?
Yes. Getting the entity, bookkeeping and payroll set up correctly at the start is far cheaper than fixing it later.
Can you take over from my current accountant mid-year?
Yes. We'll gather prior returns and records, review your books, and pick up from where things stand.
Do you only work with New Jersey and New York businesses?
No. Most of our clients are in New Jersey and New York, but we work with businesses nationwide.
